The Miami Dolphins are headed to the playoffs and are widely considered one of the best teams in the entire league while the New England Patriots had the worst season they’ve ever had under head coach Bill Belichick. But you could actually make a strong argument that the Patriots’ wins this season were more impressive than the Dolphins’ wins.

While the Dolphins won 11 games this season, finishing with an 11-6 record to make the playoffs, they actually only won one game against a team that finished with a winning record, beating the Dallas Cowboys in Week 16. The New England Patriots, meanwhile, finished the season with just a 4-13 record, but two of those wins came against teams with winning records as they beat the Buffalo Bills in Week 7 and the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 14.

So, the Patriots actually had twice as many wins over teams with winning records than the Dolphins did this season.

Obviously, this is pretty horrible news for the Dolphins as it suggests that maybe the team’s dominant season wasn’t all that impressive after all, and it’s a bad omen as they enter the playoffs. As a result, people had a lot to say about it on social media.

The Dolphins will have to perform better against teams with winning records if they’re going to make a run through the playoffs, but this stat certainly isn’t a good omen.
