Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice will always be remembered as one of the greatest receivers in the history of the NFL, if not the greatest. But Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans could have a chance to break one of his iconic records in the coming seasons.
Mike Evans has totaled more than 1,000 receiving yards in each of his nine seasons in the NFL. That puts him just two seasons shy of the record for most consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons which is currently held by Jerry Rice, who has 11.
And it sure sounds like Mike Evans wants to break that record.
“I think about it,” Evans said according to Ari Alexander of KPRC. “It’s right there, so I’m going to definitely try to get that. I’m already one of one right now. I hope I can pass the great Jerry Rice and his record. Obviously nobody will pass his records — probably like ever total. But that 1,000-yard streak record would be cool to have.”
Rice had 1,000 receiving yards every season from 1986 to 1996, only failing to reach 1,000 yards in 1997 due to an injury that sidelined him for all but two games. He then had 1,157 yards once again in 1999.
