The Seattle Seahawks made a somewhat surprising decision to part ways with longtime head coach Pete Carroll following the conclusion of the 2023-23 NFL season, and it sounds like they are going in a new, and much younger direction for his replacement.

According to a report from league insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Seattle Seahawks are looking to hire former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald as their next head coach, making him the youngest head coach in the entire league.

“A youth movement in Seattle: Seahawks are expected to hire Ravens’ defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald as their new head coach, league sources tell ESPN. They’re still finalizing the deal, but Seattle has its man. At 36, Macdonald now becomes the NFL’s youngest head coach,” Schefter said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Macdonald got his first NFL job with the Ravens in 2014, beginning his career with the team as a coaching intern. He climbed the ranks quickly, becoming the team’s defensive backs coach in 2017 and their linebackers coach from 2018 and 202o. In 2021, Macdonald left Baltimore to become the defensive coordinator with the Michigan Wolverines, but he returned the following year as the Ravens’ defensive coordinator.

With Seattle making this hire, the Washington Commanders are the only remaining team without a head coach.
