Earlier this week, top free agent running back Dalvin Cook made it clear that while there’s a pretty good chance he ultimately signs with the New York Jets, he’s still very much interested in joining the Miami Dolphins, too. And it sounds like that feeling is mutual from head coach Mike McDaniel.

During a press conference this week, Mike McDaniel was asked about Dalvin Cook, and while he made it clear that he is happy with the team’s talent at the running back position, he would be happy to have him if it makes sense for both sides.

“First and foremost, I’m extremely happy with our running back group,” McDaniel said on Friday when asked about Cook, according to Pro Football Talk. “Extremely happy. I have great relationships with some very talented players. However, Dalvin Cook is a great player. I look at it like if it works on both sides, it makes sense for somebody. You’re adding a player to a team and an organization, and all the things they both need to be met for it to work. He’s a free agent and he’s visiting the Jets. And that’s what I have to say.”

The Dolphins reportedly made a contract offer to Cook, but he obviously was not happy enough with the offer to sign with the Dolphins. We’ll have to see if the team is willing to give him a better offer, or if he chooses to sign with the Jets instead.
