When the Tennessee Titans selected Kentucky Wildcats quarterback Will Levis at the beginning of the second round, many thought it was a sign that the team was ready to move on from starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill. But according to Mike Vrabel, that does not appear to be the case – though there will be a competition.

During a press conference following the second and third round of the 2023 NFL Draft on Friday evening, Mike Vrabel met with the media and offered a bit of clarification about the team’s quarterback situation, claiming that Tannehill will be the team’s starting quarterback, Malik Willis will be No. 2, and Levis will be No. 3. But he said after that, it will be an open competition.

“Ryan will be the starting quarterback on Monday,” Vrabel said according to NFL.com. “Malik will be the backup. Will will be the third quarterback. And what I’ve told them is whatever happens after that will be up to the players. That’s what it’s always been here. That’s what we always want it to be.”

Vrabel made it clear that it’s up to the three players to earn their spot on the depth chart before the start of the 2023 NFL season.

“That’s our job is to bring in competition at every position,” Vrabel said. “It’s not a secret. I hope that by now that everybody understands that we have to prove our value to this football team each and every day.”

It’s certainly an interesting situation. We’ll have to see how it plays out for the Titans.
