Though veteran leader Kirk Cousins is quite clearly the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings, it looks like the team is making a move to add depth behind him at the quarterback position.

According to a report from league insider Tom Pelissero of The NFL Network, the Minnesota Vikings have signed former Minnesota Golden Gophers star quarterback Tanner Morgan, who is in his first season in the league.

“The #Vikings are signing rookie QB Tanner Morgan to the practice squad, per source. A homecoming for the former University of Minnesota standout,” Pelissero said in a post on X, the social media website that is formerly known as Twitter.

After six seasons with the Minnesota Golden Gophers, Tanner Morgan went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft but was signed by the Pittsburg Steelers as an undrafted free agent following the draft.

After he did not make the 53-man roster for the Steelers, he became a free agent once again before now landing with the Vikings.

It’s not likely that Morgan will see much playing time for the Vikings this season, if any. But he does add depth to the quarterback position and brings Morgan back to the state of a Minnesota.
