Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton decided to take a shot at former Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett on Thursday. And one Jets wide receiver who has a long track record alongside Hackett decided to come to his aid.

Payton didn’t mince words about how he felt towards Hackett and his previous tenure in Denver, calling it “one of the worst coaching jobs in the NFL”.

Hackett is now the offensive coordinator for the Jets, and seemingly played a large role in bringing some of the players that he coached during his time with the Green Bay Packers along with him to New York, including Aaron Rodgers, Allen Lazard, and Randall Cobb.

Cobb defended his longtime offensive coordinator during an appearance on The Michael Kay Show on Thursday, blasting Sean Payton in the process.

“You talking about the Bountygate coach?” said Cobb in response to a question about whether he was surprised by Payton’s comments. ” That’s who were talking about? Am I surprised? No, not in this day and age. As I man I think it is pretty soft.”

There is no question that Hackett’s tenure with the Broncos was less than ideal, which is why he was ultimately fired in his first season on the job. However, as Cobb says, there are certainly ugly aspects of Payton’s coaching resume as well.

The great thing about all of this back-and-forth trash talk between these teams is that fans will actually get a chance to see it settled on the field this upcoming season. The Broncos and Jets are set to face each other in Week 5 of the upcoming 2023-24 season.
