Earlier this week, The Athletic reported that Zach Wilson was “reluctant” to return to the New York Jets starting lineup even though the team was looking at moving him back atop the depth chart following the struggles from quarterback Tim Boyle. But it sounds like Wilson is going to become the Jets starting quarterback once again, after all.
During his press conference on Wednesday afternoon, New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh announced that Zach Wilson was going to take over as the team’s starting quarterback for the remainder of the regular season, despite the fact that the team benched him earlier this year.
“Zach [Wilson] gives us our best chance to win,” Saleh said. “And we’re going to give him another opportunity to go prove that.”
"He's fired up."

“He was good. He’s fired up,” Saleh said. “Like I said, on Monday, he came into my offense. He wants the ball, and he’s excited about getting this opportunity to finish this season.”
It’s a pretty shocking turn over events given the previous report that Wilson was reluctant to return as the team’s starter, and the NFL world obviously had a lot to say about it on social media as a result.
They’re calling it the greatest case of self-gaslighting. https://t.co/ZMzdGYr8JA

I wouldn’t be throwing around the word fired if I were Saleh. https://t.co/2BoqpiF5NX

This dude needs to be fired after this season! I don’t think Aaron Rodgers should even go out of his way to save him either, because I think he’s shown enough this year to say that he’s not capabale of being a NFL head coach. Dudes in that locker room got be laughing at him! https://t.co/a0qP7sXtgB

It will certainly be interesting to see how Wilson performs.
