San Francisco 49ers star edge defender Nick Bosa missed the entire preseason while he was in the midst of a contract holdout. And after such a long time away from the team, it seems to have affected his production – but he doesn’t want to use that as an excuse.

Nick Bosa led the entire NFL in sacks last year and was the most dominant pass rusher in the league, winning the league’s Defensive MVP award as a result. But this year, he hasn’t been quite so dominant. He does think some of that is due to the offseason holdout, but he also said “There’s no excuse at this point.”

“I think a little bit,” Bosa said according to Pro Football Talk. “I think I’m trying to work on stuff on the run this year that I wasn’t able to do in camp. So, those games that I mentioned, the two, I think I was thinking too much because I was trying to add something to my rush plan which is not what I want to be doing during season. I want to be locked in on what I do best and just doing it throughout the whole year. But there’s no excuse at this point for that.”

It will certainly be interesting to see if Bosa can get back to his dominant form at some point during the season.
