The Indianapolis Colts made headlines on Tuesday when they used the franchise tag on wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. It turns out that the Colts haven’t made that type of a move in a rather long time. Funnily, the last time they did involved none other than… Pat McAfee.

It turns out it’s been several years since the Colts have opted to use the franchise. The organization hasn’t done it since 2013, when they spent it on the former celebrated punter McAfee.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter brought this fun fact to everybody’s attention.

“First time the Colts have used the franchise tag since 2013 with …. Pat McAfee,” Schefter said. Schefter made note of this fun fact on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.

Before McAfee started appearing on your TV screens everyday, he was an artful punter for the Indianapolis Colts. After a college stay at West Virginia during one of the program’s most notable runs, McAfee became one of the league’s best punters.

Then, of course, you know the rest. McAfee has become one of sports media’s most prominent figures. He’s the color commentator on WWE Raw and hosts The Pat McAfee Show daily on ESPN.

Needless to say, there was plenty of reaction unearthed from this fact. The NFL world had much to say about it.
