Chiefs Patrick Mahomes Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

As Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes prepares for a Super Bowl LVIII showdown with the San Francisco 49ers, he is having to deal with a horrible distraction from his father.

According to a report from ESPN, Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of the Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback, was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

“The father of Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes was arrested Saturday night in Tyler, Texas, on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, according to online jail records,” ESPN reported on Sunday.

“Patrick Mahomes Sr., 54, is facing a charge of Driving While Intoxicated 3rd Or More with his bond being set at $10,000. He was released from the Smith County Jail on Sunday afternoon.”

Obviously, this is pretty horrible news for Mahomes and his family as he is trying to prepare for one of the biggest games of his entire life, and the NFL world had a lot to say about the news on social media as a result.

The star quarterback undoubtedly wanted this week to be as free of drama as possible given the massive game taking place next weekend. We’ll have to see how he handles the distraction.
