After losing two straight games to fall to 10-3 on the season, the Philadelphia Eagles have made an adjustment to their defensive coaching staff.

After defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon left the Eagles to become the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals in the offseason, Philadelphia hired Seattle Seahawks defensive assistant Sean Desai to replace Gannon.

Earlier this week, Desai was replaced by former Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia, FOX’s Jay Glazer reported Sunday.

“A little Eagles scoopage today,” Glazer tweeted. Philly very quietly made a change at defensive coordinator this week moving out Sean Desai to another position and replacing him with Matt Patricia. Desai remains with the team in different capacity but Patricia now runs and calls the defense”

Before being hired as head coach of the Detroit Lions, a position Patricia held from 2018-20, he was the defensive coordinator for the New England Patriots from 2012-17, and he was an assistant with the Patriots again for the 2021 and 2022 seasons before being hired by the Eagles in the offseason.

The Eagles had been an NFL-best 10-1 to start the season, but suffered back-to-back blowout losses, 42-19 to the San Francisco 49ers on Dec. 3 and 33-13 to the Dallas Cowboys on Dec. 10 to fall to 10-3 and be back in a fight for the NFC’s top seed heading into the postseason.
