Randy Gregory Randy Gregory has apologized for his part in the postgame fight between the Broncos and Rams after their Christmas Day game.

Randy Gregory was not in the Christmas spirit during Week 16’s Christmas Day game between his Denver Broncos and the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. When the game was over, an interview between CBS’ Tracy Wolfson and Rams quarterback Baker Mayfield was interrupted by a confrontation between the two teams. The cameras quickly caught Gregory being restrained by players and coaches of both teams.

On Monday, Gregory and Rams lineman, Oday Aboushi, received one-game suspensions. Later in the day, Gregory addressed the matter. In a statement, Gregory (per Vic Lombardi, Altitude TV and Radio in Denver) apologized for what happened.

“Dear Broncos Country, I would like to thank my amazing teammates, staff and fans who have supported me throughout this frustrating season. I would like to take this action to sincerely apologize for my actions yesterday. The game was full of emotion and disappointment, and was not a reflection of my character. My goal is to finish out this season strong, play with pride and be part of the solution and not the problem going forward. Thank you.”

Gregory has had his share of discipline issues during his NFL career. He played in only two games during the 2016 season, then missed the entire 2017 season. These were due to suspensions from repeated failed drug tests. He signed with the Denver Broncos after the 2021 season, making some unfavorable comments about his previous team, the Dallas Cowboys on his way out.

An apology of some sort was necessary for Gregory. Emotions can spill over through the course of a game. That’s understandable. But after the game is a much different story. And there shouldn’t have been any lingering animosity from the final moments of the game. The Broncos trailed 31-6 at halftime and lost 51-14. They had plenty of time to accept their fate.
