Bill Belichick Eric Canha-USA TODAY Sports

Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick failed to acquire a coaching job this offseason after parting ways with the Patriots organization. And Baltimore Ravens star cornerback Marlon Humphrey seems to believe this is a negative mark on his overall resume as a head coach.

Belichick has of course accomplished as much as any coach in NFL history, winning six Super Bowl championships in New England.

However, it has always been a debate whether Belichick was the driving force of those Super Bowl victories, or whether Tom Brady was.

Marlon Humphrey seems to believe that the latter was truly the reason for the Patriots’ success, which he detailed in a social media post on Thursday that questioned Belichick’s greatness as a coach.

“The ‘greatest coach of All time’ did not get hired out of 6 Head Coaching jobs open. I think that debate can be put to rest now,” tweeted Humphrey.

Naturally, Humphrey was met with a ton of pushback from fans on Twitter/X from those who believe Belichick is indeed a great coach.

Truthfully, a big reason Belichick likely didn’t get hired by a team is that there are realistically very few landing spots that even make sense for him at this point of his career.

If you are a rebuilding team as many who were searching for a new head coach were, you don’t really want to bring in a coach like Belichick who is likely looking to compete as soon as possible.

On paper, it seems pretty unfair for Humphrey to completely discredit all Belichick has done as an NFL coach because he wasn’t hired at 72 years of age.

Regardless, it sure seems like Humphrey believes Belichick is not the “G.O.A.T.” of NFL coaching like most see him to be.
