The Las Vegas Raiders fired head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler late Tuesday evening just a season-and-a-half after hiring both.

McDaniels went just 9-16 as head coach, as Las Vegas had no shortage of issues in his tenure.

Naturally, the rumor mill for who will replace McDaniels as head coach has already started to heat up, as is often the case when an NFL job becomes open.

What generally isn’t the case is suggesting someone with no coaching experience and minimal ties to the organization be interviewed for the job.

On Wednesday night, ESPN analyst and former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III tweeted, “Alright…hear me out. Marshawn Lynch should AT LEAST get a HEAD COACH interview with the Raiders this off-season. Lean into the Raider way, team becomes feared with his style and mentality. Load up his staff with experience and proven coordinators. Who says no?”

To say the suggestion is out of nowhere is an understatement. Lynch is from Oakland, which is where the Raiders used to play, and played for the team from 2017-18, but besides that, there’s no real tie between the two. The Raiders moved to Las Vegas in 2020, and Lynch has never coached at any level, college or professional.

Fans on social media had a lot to say about Griffin’s bizarre proposal.
