The NFL announced Wednesday that they have extended the contract of commissioner Roger Goodell through 2027. Goodell, who has been commissioner since 2006, has had his contract extended four times since he became commissioner.
Goodell, who is 64, has been with the league for 45 years. He started as an intern with the league in 1982 moving up the ranks before taking over for Paul Tagliabue who was retiring at the time.
During his time as NFL commissioner, the league has grown considerably not only in this country but overseas where it has become an international product.
There is even talk that the league may hold a Super Bowl in London in the future. Yet despite its growth, the league still faces some harsh realities and controversies as well such as a lack of minority ownership in the league and NFL owners getting caught up in their own troubles which shines a negative light on the league such as with former Washington Commanders owner Daniel Snyder.
The reaction of some NFL fans to the news has been mixed. Some are ok with Goodell getting his extension, others, not so much.
Horrible idea.
Goodell is ruining the game and the product couldn’t be worse right now.

As you can see, some NFL fans think that Goodell has done a great job over the years, others will be glad to see him go but they have to wait at least four years before that happens.
