Ever since the Denver Broncos chose to bench quarterback Russell Wilson for the final few games of the regular season, it has been widely assumed that the team would be parting ways with the veteran quarterback during the offseason, but no formal decision has been announced yet. However, it sounds like that decision is coming soon.

During his press conference at the 2024 NFL Combine on Tuesday afternoon, Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton said that he expects the team to announce a decision on the future of Russell Wilson “within the next two weeks.”

“We go through the combine week here. Next week, I think Tuesday, Wednesday, we’ll be in meetings with ownership. And so I expect that we’re going to know fairly quickly,” Payton said. “There’s a couple of factors here. Obviously, the cap projections came out. We’re further down the road with the draft class, obviously the pro free agents. So, I would anticipate it within the next two weeks.”

Though Wilson is expected to ultimately be released by the Broncos, he recently expressed his desire to remain with the Broncos.

“I got more fire than ever, honestly,” Wilson told Brandon Marshall on the I Am Athlete podcast. “Especially over the past two years of what I’ve gone through. Whether it’s in Denver or somewhere else. I hope it’s in Denver. You know, I hope I get to finish there. I committed there. I wanted to be there. I want to be there.”

Whatever the team decides to do, it sounds like we should know Wilson’s fate soon enough.
