Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson is one of the most well-known players in America’s most popular league.

While it remains to be seen what he will do whenever he retires from the NFL, Wilson’s former longtime backup thinks he’s been working toward running for president since the two attended the University of Wisconsin.

Nate Tice, who backed up Wilson with the Badgers and roomed with him on the road, detailed his ‘long-standing theory’ with Pablo Torre on Pablo Torre Finds Out.

“I have had a long-developing theory about Russell Wilson, from even my experience with him at Wisconsin and every step of the way afterwards, that everything he does is to be President of the United States,” Tice told Torre. “There’s been nothing to dissuade me from that opinion. It’s about a quarter-joking, and it might be one-eighth joking after the next couple of years.”

Wilson turns 35 in late November and therefore would become eligible to run in the 2024 presidential election. Wilson, however, has never divulged his political opinions so we’d be left to guess for which party he’d run if he indeed made the jump into politics.

The NFL world nonetheless was quick to react to the shocking theory detailed by Wilson’s former backup:
