Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay may not be on the sidelines for the team’s showdown with the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday.

McVay’s wife is expecting the couple’s first child and the coach said that if the child arrives Sunday, he will be missing the game.

“Really feel fortunate that it’s been a smooth pregnancy, my wife has been incredible and, so, it hasn’t quite hit me yet, “McVay told reporters Friday. “He’s active right now, it seems like he’s ready to come at any moment. What a blessing that will be.”

McVay is 62-41 all-time as head coach of the Rams and was named the AP Coach of the Year in 2017. McVay also coached the Rams to their second-ever Super Bowl victory when they picked up a 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI.

McVay didn’t disclose who would coach in his absence, but defensive coordinator Raheem Morris was the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009-2011 and was the interim head coach for the Atlanta Falcons last 11 games of 2020 after they fired Dan Quinn. Former Washington Huskies head coach Jimmy Lake is also on the Rams’ staff, so there are options if McVay is unable to attend.

The Rams will be looking to get back to .500 after falling to 2-3 with a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last week.
