When the Denver Broncos benched Russell Wilson for the final two games of the season, it was widely assumed that his benching meant the team would be parting ways with Wilson during the offseason. But according to head coach Sean Payton, that decision actually hasn’t been made yet.

During a press conference this week, Sean Payton said that the team is still in the process of making its decision regarding Russell Wilson.

“When we get back and we begin this process of looking at our roster, where we select, there’s so many things that goes into a decision specific to the quarterback. Which is significant obviously. So it’s too early, at all,” Payton said.

“I spent half an hour with Russ yesterday and I told him ‘Look, I don’t think it’s going to be a long, drawn out process but it hasn’t been decided relative to what our plans are,’” Payton continued.

Obviously, this is pretty shocking news about Wilson as it was widely assumed that the Broncos had already decided to part ways with Wilson, and the NFL world had a lot to say about it on social media as a result.

While it still seems likely that the team will indeed part ways with Wilson, there is also a chance that the team will decide to restructure his contract and keep him next season.

We’ll have to see what happens.
