Multiple people were shot during the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl celebration Wednesday, resulting in one reported death and numerous injuries, according to KC Police and national media sources.

According to a police statement on X/Twitter, two people have been taken into custody.

The shootings took place near the end of the team’s victory parade, near the Union Station parking garage.

Videos showed a chaotic scene, with police rushing toward the gunfire, while confused and frightened fans fled.

ABC News reported that one person has died, and nine people were injured.

Police urged people to leave the area immediately after the shooting.

“Anyone nearby needs to leave the area as quickly and safely as possible to facilitate treatment of the shooting victims,” the KC Police tweeted. “Please avoid the Union Station parking garage area to allow first responders through.”

There was also apparently great concern for children who got separated from their parents in the commotion, leading police to send out “child reunification” information.

“Remember the child reunification stations in the area are at 2301 Main and inside the main entrance of Union Station. We still have several needing reunification. Contact the officer nearest you for reunification information.”

The NFL world quickly reacted to the news.
