Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett is entering his second NFL season this year, and fans are hoping that he will take a big leap forward. And former Steelers running back Jerome Bettis seems to believe that there are big things in Pickett’s future.

Pickett showed some great signs of development during the preseason this year, completing 13 of 15 passes across three games, throwing for 199 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. In all five drives led by Pickett this preseason, the Steelers were able to score a touchdown.

Bettis was asked about Pickett ahead of the Steelers’ season-opening game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, where he revealed that he believes Pickett has “superstar potential”.

“I really believe he has the potential to be a superstar,” Bettis told ABC 4 in Pittsburgh. “I think if he develops the way he has been and continues to, I think the sky is the limit for this football team because I think we have some special players all over the football field.”

If Pickett can improve in his sophomore campaign, the Steelers could be a dark-horse contender to watch in the AFC this season.

It seems like at the very least he has the belief of his Steelers teammates, as they named him one of four team captains on Monday in only his second season.

This is an honor that the Steelers take very seriously. For comparison,  it took former Steelers star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger five seasons to be named a captain in Pittsburgh.
