The Pittsburgh Steelers made news on Monday as the team moved significantly at the quarterback position.

While Pittsburgh already has Kenny Pickett and Mitchell Trubisky in the fold, it elected to move for a veteran quarterback to fill out that third and likely final spot on the depth chart. On Monday, Andrew Fillipponi of Pittsburgh’s 93.7 The Fan, reported that Mason Rudolph would be re-signing with the Steelers.

While Rudolph was displeased with his role as the team’s third quarterback last season — often inactive — he has agreed to return to the team who used a third-round pick on him in the 2018 NFL Draft. In addition to Pickett and Trubisky, the Steelers had brought in Tanner Morgan as an undrafted free agent, along with Bryce Perkins and Hunter Johnson as tryout players during the team’s rookie minicamp.

None of the three mentioned above made a significant enough impression, as Rudolph was at the team facility for a visit on Monday. While he didn’t manage to take a snap for the Steelers last season, Rudolph has 10 career starts under his belt and has led Pittbsught to a 5-4-1 record. In four seasons (17 games), Rudolph has completed 61.5 percent of his passes for 2,366 yards with 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

The NFL world reacted on social media, as one of the best remaining free-agent quarterbacks is now off the market.
