Former No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield is on the fourth team of his NFL career. Probably not the path he envisioned when the Cleveland Browns selected him at the top of the 2018 NFL Draft.

And while Mayfield has the unenviable task of replacing the legendary Tom Brady at quarterback, he reportedly wants to make Tampa Bay the final stop of his career according to an ex-general manager.

“He thought that [Tampa Bay] was not only the best opportunity for him now, but for the future. He’s looking for a place where he can hopefully play well and finish out his career,” Rick Spielman told NFL on CBS after visiting the Bucs’ minicamp. “He’s really out to prove he’s the Baker Mayfield that was taken with the first overall pick.”

Mayfield still holds that chip on his shoulder which has spurred him to success at other places.

“There’s no question about the chip on his shoulder,” Spielman said. “If you look over the last couple of years, it’s been disappointing but before that he was almost living up to the billing of being the No. 1 overall pick. He got Cleveland into the playoffs, then got injured and he’s hot a few road bumps along the way.”

Nobody is expecting Mayfield to totally replace Brady, the greatest quarterback of all time. But if he can play like a consistent NFL starter, the Bucs will certainly be happy with their replacement.
