On Saturday, the Tennessee Titans released veteran quarterback Kevin Hogan. On Wednesday, the Houston Texans signed him.
The Stanford product was originally drafted in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs, though he was released before the following season. He spent two seasons with the Cleveland Browns and has made his way around the league with stints with the Washington Commanders, Denver Broncos, Cincinnati Bengals, and the Titans.
Hogan was mostly on the practice squad last season for Tennessee and signed a reserve/future contract with the organization in January. In his career, the 29-year-old has nine appearances, a 59.4 career completion percentage, 621 yards, four touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
Head coach Lovie Smith has been clear in his praise for Davis Mills as the Texans’ starter heading into the season, though the team also has Tyrod Taylor on the roster. They’ve also been rumored as a potential landing spot for both Jimmy Garoppolo and Baker Mayfield, though that seems less likely as the offseason goes on.
Hogan provides the Texans with a veteran backstop or practice squad quarterback they can count on if things get really bad. But the truth is that the franchise probably has much bigger things to worry about this upcoming season anyway.
