New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola is a popular guy around the region. In his third season with the team he finished the regular season with 65 receptions for 648 yard and three touchdowns, helping the Pats earn a first-round bye in the NFL Playoffs. Now he’ll try to help the team move past the Kansas City Chiefs and return to the AFC Championship game.

His popularity, however, is also causing some distractions closer to home.

First came media reports that some of Amendola’s neighbors were none-too-pleased with a carport he installed in the driveway of his historic Providence home. The metal structure behind his 1774-built home doesn’t exactly keep with the character of the neighborhood.

Longtime resident Tim More told the Associated Press, “It’s a simple utilitarian structure, but if you had tons of these around the neighborhood, it would significantly detract from the historic quality and aesthetic appearance of the Benefit Street neighborhood.”

Amendola stayed strong, telling a radio program “I still need it” and the carport remains.

Doubling the concerns of those neighbors is that by making Amendola’s home address obvious to anyone, it’s meant the arrival of a very specific kind of fan.

The oh-so-snooty College Hill neighbors, who complained about Patriots receiver Danny Amendola’s carport, now complaining that there are carloads of ladies cruising Danny’s Providence digs (and their neighborhood) — ladies who learned Amendola’s address as a result of the neighbors’ bellyaching

As much grief as Amendola might be causing his, perhaps the sharpest rebuke came from neighbor Ray Rickman, who wasn’t actually all that bothered by the carport.

“I think it would be cooler if Tom Brady lived here. I would offer to help him shovel his snow.”

Good luck with your snow and your ladies, Amendola. You’re on your own in both regards.
