Titans star running back Derrick Henry Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry (22) waves to fans as he exits the field after defeating Jacksonville Jaguars 28-20 at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn., Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024.

The Tennessee Titans finished with a losing record for the second straight season this year, a season that could spell the end of star running back Derrick Henry’s tenure with the team.

Henry is set to become a free agent this season. For the better part of the last ten years, Henry has been amongst the best running backs in all of football.

He has accomplished nearly everything there is to do from an individual standpoint in the NFL, reaching the Pro Bowl four times along with an Offensive Player of the Year and All-Pro honor back in 2020.

However, the one thing that has illuded Henry has been team success on the grandest stage, as he has never had the chance to play for a Super Bowl championship in his career.

During an appearance on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast, Henry revealed that his focus has shifted away from individual accolades and that he is now focused solely on playing for whoever gives him the best chance at a Super Bowl.

“Like I said, I want to win a Super Bowl,” said Henry. “I ain’t done playing, I ain’t close to done playing. I still feel I can run for another 2,000. But that is for the future to tell. I want to be somewhere that gives me the best shot of winning a Super Bowl. The business side is the business side.”

Henry did add that whatever offer he accepts has to “make sense” financially still for him.

“At the end of the day, it has to make sense. I’m not just going to just accept anything. It’s a long season, we put our bodies through a lot. But at the same time I definitely want to be on a roster that can go out there and put ourselves in position to be able to win games and get into the playoffs and contend for a ring.”

Henry’s ambition to win isn’t exactly a new thing. He has been voicing his frustrations with the Titans’ struggles this season numerous times throughout the year.

If Henry truly wants to win a Super Bowl like he says, odds are he will have to leave the Titans in order to do so anytime soon.

Tennessee is set to have a second-year quarterback in Will Levis at the helm with a new head coach after Mike Vrabel’s firing. This obviously doesn’t inspire much confidence in winning right away next year.

We have seen plenty of trade rumors involving Henry this past season. And chances are these comments from Henry mean that he could be playing for a contender as many have hoped for in 2024.
