It’s been an interesting offseason for Tennessee Titans star Kevin Byard.

The Titans asked the two-time All-Pro to take a paycut earlier this offseason. This request came despite great play from the former Middle Tennessee standout. Byard, one of the best defensive backs in the NFL since he entered the league, has appeared copacetic and trollied on anyway despite the request.

On Wednesday, he spoke up about his offseason and current team status. Byard appeared on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast and sounded off.

“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t [react] like ‘What? They asked for what?’ But at the same time, you can’t be emotional in business,” Byard said via ProFootballTalk. He continued: “If you make an emotional decision within y’all business, more than likely it’s going to be bad business. I had to find a way to compartmentalize everything and keep my emotions out of it when I’m making these different decisions and stuff like that. It happened. I think we’re in a good place right now.”

Byard’s business-like approach will likely pay dividends for him. Just from the perspective that he won’t allow himself to get too out about it. All he can do is play, and to his credit, he’s played exceptionally since his rookie season in 2016.

Kevin Byard has accumulated 627 tackles, 27 interceptions, 63 passes defended, three forced fumbles, 4.0 sacks, 15 TFL, and two defensive touchdowns.
