Last season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers did not have a particularly strong running game, finishing dead last in the league with just 3.4 yards per carry. But it sounds like they have confidence in at least one of their returning running backs going forward.

The Buccaneers drafted Rachaad White in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft and he quickly emerged as one of the team’s top weapons on the ground behind starter Leonard Fournette, who is now a free agent. And based on a recent quote from head coach Todd Bowles, it sounds like he will have a big role in the team’s offense this upcoming season.

“Just get better — we talked about him becoming a more complete back,” Bowles said at last week’s league meeting according to Scott Reynolds of PewterReport.com. “I know the ball went on the ground a few too many times that we talked about and aware of him holding on to the football, number one. Taking care of the football, and then with the new offense, I look for him to continue to accelerate and get better in all phases to become a complete, three-down back.”

We’ll have to see how the team revamps its running game this off-season.
