It’s no secret that Tom Brady is the most dominant quarterback ever to play in the NFL, even in his later years. It’s also no secret that the Chicago Bears have struggled at the quarterback position. But when Brady’s late-season numbers and Chicago’s franchise leader’s numbers are directly compared, it’s pretty jarring.

As prominent sports statistical analyst Jay Cuda points out in a post on social media, Tom Brady put up significantly better numbers after he turned 40 years old than the Chicago Bears’ all-time franchise leader in each statistical category.

As Cuda points out, Brady’s 31,938 passing yards after turning 40 far outpace the 23,797 career yards put up by Jay Cutler. Brady’s 218 passing touchdowns after turning 40 also far outpace the 156 touchdowns thrown by Cutler in his entire career. And Brady had 26 more wins after turning 40 years old than Mike Tomczak, who leads the franchise with 52 wins in his entire career.

It’s pretty insane that Brady’s few seasons past the age of 40 were more successful than the Chicago Bears’ franchise leader in each statistical category, and the NFL world had a lot to say about it on Twitter as a result.

It’s debatable whether this says more about Brady’s dominance in his later years or the Bears’ incompetence at the quarterback position throughout their history. Either way, it’s a pretty shocking stat.
