Earlier this month, a pretty shocking report quietly revealed that the San Francisco 49ers were looking to lure Tom Brady out of retirement to start over Brock Purdy this season. Nobody from the Niners has since addressed the report, but Brady himself was asked about it on Tuesday.

During his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, Tom Brady was asked directly about the report claiming that Brock Purdy said the Niners were pursuing Brady to be their starting quarterback. Brady didn’t offer a firm confirmation, but he definitely didn’t deny the report, either.

“In this last season, there’s a lot of different things that people would suggest, but I kind of just kept my mind focused on where I wanted to go,” Brady said according to 49ers WebZone. “Again, this was a great year for me to sit back and watch and learn and get prepared for being in the Fox booth next year.”

Obviously, these words from the seven-time Super Bowl champion led to a lot of reactions on social media.

Ultimately, Brady chose to stay retired and Purdy ended up leading the Niners to a Super Bowl. It seems like everything worked out well for everyone involved.
