Trent Williams remains one of the best offensive linemen in the game. When it comes to his evaluations of a quarterback, it’s something to take into account.
He noticed a few thing about Trey Lance during his limited 49ers exposure to the young play caller.
“I don’t have a crystal ball,” Williams told Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, “but I think in this league when you do the right things and you’re made of the right stuff, eventually opportunity will find its way back to you.”
Don’t feel bad for Lance now that he’s the third-string quarterback behind Dak Prescott and Cooper Rush. He reportedly had a smile on his face when he found out he’d be traded to the Cowboys by the 49ers this summer.
He hopes to learn from Dak and the offense. It’s a long fall from being a future franchise quarterback, but Williams doesn’t think the story is over for Lance.
“And I think that will happen in Trey’s case,” he added. “And when it does, we’ll all see the talent everybody knows that’s inside of him.”
The Cowboys head to Santa Clara to face the 49ers on Sunday. It looks to be a reunion of sorts, and the media for sure will be asking Lance plenty of questions about his former home.
