When the Miami Dolphins take on the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round of the NFL playoffs this weekend, they’ll be doing it without starting quarterback Tua Tagovaloa as he remains in concussion protocol after suffering his second concussion of the season.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel ruled Tua Tagovailoa out on Wednesday because even if he were cleared to play by doctors, it would not be enough time for him to get ready to play this weekend’s game.

“As of today, Tua has not been cleared by doctors to resume football activities on the field with his teammates. So because of that, and because of the time that he’s missed, I can rule him out for Sunday, McDaniel said of Tagovailoa on Wednesday. “He was an incredible part of the entire season.”

It’s unfortunate news for both the Dolphins and the NFL world as a whole, and people had plenty to say about it on Twitter.

Former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson reacted to the news with a broken heart emoji in a tweet.

“A tough break for Tua and the Dolphins, but I think more about the man’s long term health rather than one football game,” former NFL writer Joe Glasgow said in a tweet.

“Well, it was nice while it lasted. Tua was our best chance at QB to beat the Bill’s. Still happy we at least made the playoffs,” one Dolphins fan said in a tweet.

Mike McDaniel says #Dolphins are prepping for the #Bills as if rookie QB Skylar Thompson will start,” Mike Giardi of the NFL network shared in a tweet.

With backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater also injured, it appears the Dolphins will head into the playoffs with rookie quarterback Skylar Thompson.
