Before the start of this season, Miami Dolphins superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill boldly claimed that he wanted to become the first player in NFL history to have 2,000 receiving yards in a single season. And for much of the season, he was on pace to hit that mark – but that’s no longer true.

After missing Sunday afternoon’s game with an ankle injury, Tyreek Hill is no longer on pace to eclipse the 2,000-yard mark. In fact, he’s no longer even on pace to break the single-season receiving yards record set by Calvin Johnson back in 2012.

“Hill has played at a very high level, and he’s been ahead of the 2,000-yard pace for most of this season. But Hill missed Sunday’s game with an ankle injury, and now he’s below the record pace that Calvin Johnson set when he had 1,964 receiving yards in 2012,” Michael David Smith wrote for Pro Football Talk.

“Hill currently has 1,542 receiving yards, with three games left in the season. If Hill plays in all three games and continues his season average of 118.6 yards per game, he’ll finish with 1,898 yards. That’s 66 yards short of Johnson’s record and 102 yards short of 2,000.”

It’s pretty terrible news for Hill after he came so close to reaching the mark, and the NFL world had a lot to say about it on social media.

Obviously, there’s still a chance that Hill could reach the 2,000-yard total, but he would need to average 152.7 receiving yards per game in his last three games, which would not be an easy task.
