The New York Giants have had a tumultuous season with a number of significant changes at the quarterback position. And their upcoming Week 17 game against the Los Angeles Rams will be no different.

New York started out with Daniel Jones as their starting quarterback to begin the 2023 season, which lasted for six games before he suffered a season-ending injury.

Veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor then stepped into the starting job, playing three games before himself going down with an injury. This then forced rookie quarterback Tommy Devito into action, who showed glimpses of magic in his six games as their starter.

However, Devito struggled heavily in the team’s Week 16 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, leading to head coach Brian Daboll deciding to make a change at quarterback and bring Tyrod Taylor back in.

It wasn’t a perfect performance from Taylor by any means on Christmas Day. But he was able to give the Giants a real chance for an upset win over the Philadelphia Eagles, coming up just short on the final play which very well could have been a pass interference call in the back of the endzone.

This performance put Taylor in a position that he has been in various times over the course of his 13-year NFL career, getting an opportunity to come off the bench and prove himself as a starter. Giants head coach Brian Daboll officially named him the starter on Wednesday.

The life of an NFL backup is one where you need to be prepared for anything. And Taylor appears to be embracing his latest chance as a starter.

“I try to stay as level as possible,” Taylor told reporters on staying ready for any opportunity. “Through the highs and the lows. Life is a rollercoaster. How you endure the storms and how you endure the ups and downs speaks to your character. So I try and remain the same.”

Taylor’s character is obviously well spoken for. He has thrived through the peaks and valleys that come in the NFL, starting 56 games over the course of his career.

You simply don’t get too much more experienced of a quarterback in the NFL, especially when it comes to short-notice opportunites as a backup, than Taylor is.

The former Pro Bowler gave the Giants a much-needed spark last week. So it will certainly be interesting to see if he can do the same for them on Sunday against the Rams.
