An already banged up Minnesota Vikings team suffered another hit on Sunday with left tackle Christian Darrisaw being ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons due to a groin injury.

Darrisaw was added to Minnesota’s injury report on Friday, but was a full participant in the team’s practice. According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Virginia Tech product tweaked the injury on Saturday, which ultimately resulted in him being ruled out for Sunday’s Week 9 matchup.

Darrisaw’s absence is a significant one for a Vikings team that will be starting rookie Jaren Hall at quarterback after Kirk Cousins suffered a torn Achilles in last week’s win over the Green Bay Packers.

Earlier this week, Minnesota acquired veteran quarterback Joshua Dobbs, who will serve as the Vikings’ primary backup quarterback against Atlanta on Sunday.

Selected by Minnesota in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Darrisaw has emerged as one of the best young offensive tackles in football in his first three seasons in the league. Through the first eight weeks of the 2023 season, Pro Football Focus ranks the 24-year-old as the No. 2 overall offensive tackle.

At 4-4, the Vikings enter their matchup with the 4-4 Falcons in second place of the NFC North. After the news of Darrisaw’s injury status was announced on Sunday, many took to social media to weigh in.
