After remaining silent, Von Miller is finally speaking about an incident that resulted in him turning himself into law enforcement.
“It’s overblown. I’ve got the right people on the job,” Miller told AP Sports. “I know who I am. I know my character. I know the type of person that I am. I know me and my girlfriend’s relationship.”
A warrant was issued for the veteran linebacker after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend on Nov. 29.
Police responded to a “major disturbance” call where Miller and the alleged victim argued in which he allegedly assaulted her. He left the scene before officers arrived.
The victim wasn’t taken to the hospital but was treated for minor injuries, including bruising on her neck, at the scene.
“Everything was blown out of proportion. It was a crazy day,” he said.
Miller was charged with a third-degree felony assault of a pregnant woman, which is punishable by 2 to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. He posted a $5,000 bond.
An affidavit obtained by AP Sports claims Miller put his hands twice on the neck of the woman, pulled out a chunk of her hair and threw her onto a couch.
“Whatever happened, I hate that it happened. I hate my name is attached to anything like that, and it’s just a matter of time until I can clear it up,” he added. “Me and my girlfriend, we have problems just like any other couple does, but there has never been any of those things that was alleged against me.”
