Trade requests tend to be awkward at times. Sometimes things don’t work out, but it gets leery sometimes. In the case of the Anaheim Ducks, they learned it could get pretty brutal.

Goaltender John Gibson wants out of Anaheim. That much is true after the Duck goalie requested a trade from the organization. But that’s not all.

As B/R Open Ice tweeted, per reporter Frank Seravalli, “John Gibson has asked for a trade… and he said, ‘I am not playing another game for the Anaheim Ducks.'”

Well, you definitely don’t need to ask if it’s over there. Or ask if there’s any way of mending those fences. That’s about as matter-of-fact a request can be.

What might make this worse is that the Ducks are the only team Gibson has ever known. Anaheim drafted him with the 39th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Two seasons later, he arrived at the club. He logged over 400 games played and over 400 starts in net. He holds a career GAA of 2.83 and a Sv% of .912.

Last season was a tough one for him, though. Gibson allowed a league-high 200 goals and recorded a league-high 31 losses in net.

So it seemed like one way or another, the Ducks and Gibson were nearing an end to their relationship.
