Former United States President Donald Trump has spent a lot of time golfing over the years and has naturally been the subject of thousands of photographs on the golf course. But he’s not happy about one photograph that he claims has been circulating because it’s not really him.

This week, Donald Trump took to social media to call out “The Fake News” for circulating a fake photograph in which he appears to be far more overweight than he really is.

“The Fake News used Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) to create the picture on the top left. These are despicable people, but everyone knows that. The other pictures are me hitting Golf balls today to show the difference. Sadly, in our Country, Fake News is all you get!” Trump said in a post on Truth Social, the social media website he helped start after he was banned from Facebook and Twitter in 2020.

Trump is right to call out the photograph because as Snopes.com pointed out back in 2017, that is not Trump’s body. Instead, it’s Trump’s face edited onto the body of professional golfer John Daly.

“President Trump has spent a significant amount of time on golf courses during his first few months in office, but this image is not a legitimate photograph of him. It was created by digitally inserting a picture of Donald Trump’s face onto an image of professional golfer and Trump supporter John Daly,” Snopes said.

Obviously, these comments from Trump led to a lot of reactions on social media.

It’s worth noting that the photograph likely wasn’t created with AI since it began to circulate back in 2017, long before AI photo technology was widely available. Instead, it was likely just a simple edit in a photo editing program like Photoshop.
