Last presidential election cycle, San Francisco Giants principal owner Charles Johnson was a pretty prominent financial backer of former United States President Donald Trump. But as the 2024 election cycle heats up, it sounds like Johnson is switching allegiances.
According to a report from political reporter Alex Shultz of SFGate, Charles Johnson has made a maximum donation to the Ron DeSantis campaign, indicating that he plans to support DeSantis in the election instead of Donald Trump.
“SF Giants principal owner Charles Johnson recently maxed out a $6600 donation (most you can give for primary + general election) to Ron DeSantis’s presidential campaign, according to FEC filings. Seems DeSantis is his 2024 candidate of choice,” Shultz wrote in a tweet.

It’s a pretty big move from the team owner, and his support for DeSantis certainly generated quite a few reactions on social media as a result.
Giants are gonna come up $6000 short on the Ohtani bidding this winter also lmao https://t.co/3XSQ7aqqHs

One of many reasons to always side with players any time there’s a dispute. https://t.co/dJvhxB3Yyt

Johnson has a pretty clear and extensive history of supporting Republican candidates, contributing over $900,000 to the campaigns of Mitt Romney, John Boehner, and Ben Quayle between 2000 and mid-2015 before becoming a major backer of Trump during his presidential run.
But it’s now clear that he has switched alliances and will now be supporting DeSantis in the upcoming primaries.
