It’s been a rough month for former United States President Donald Trump as he was fined $355 million after a civil fraud trial in New York. And in a pretty horrible twist, it sounds like there’s a chance he could be facing a new legal battle as a result of the sneaker line he just launched.
This week, Donald Trump launched his new sneakers that he has named the “Never Surrender High-Tops.” The shoes sell at an extremely high price point of $399 – which could help the former president pay the massive $355 million fine he’s currently facing. However, the design of the shoe could lead him to some legal problems.
As CNN political commentator Maria Cardona points out, the shoes have a red sole on the bottom. And that red sole has historically been considered a trademark for world-famous shoe designer Christian Louboutin.
“When I looked at this, I said ‘This is yet another lawsuit in the making.’ Christian Louboutin, who is a hugely famous top-line designer of women’s shoes, his shoes famously have a red sole,” Cardona said. “He has been in some lawsuits before where the court at the European Union, the court in India have said this red sole is a trademark of this shoe designer.”
In fact, there is a pair of actual Christian Louboutin shoes that look extremely similar to the Trump sneakers.
I wonder where Trump got the idea for his sneakers?…. 🤔 https://t.co/c3ZWtoAgsM pic.twitter.com/9WBuLQjwRA

“It would be really ironic for this thing that Donald Trump did in order to make money to pay his lawsuits to accrue yet another additional lawsuit.”
Obviously, this would be a horrible twist for Trump, and people had a lot to say about it on social media.
As an attorney, there’s something I’d like to point out against Donald Trump’s gold sneakers.
I think there design is in violation of trademark protections held by Christian Louboutin, and we plan on pushing this issue.

Did you know Christian Louboutin owns red bottom shoes? As in, they own the trademark and any shoes that aren’t red all over can’t have the famous red bottom.
Would be a shame if Trumps shoes brand was slapped with another lawsuit.

Christian Louboutin’s trademark lawsuit against Trump’s sneakers is getting stronger by the minute 🤣 https://t.co/7KIe3OP0Oc

Bwahahahahha. Trump’s probably going to be sued by an actual shoe designer.
Christian Louboutin has a federal trademark for its red outsole, which is synonymous with its shoes.

I wonder if Trump knows his red soled sneakers are an infringement of Christian Louboutin‘s trademark? pic.twitter.com/OJScMERir2

When is Christian Louboutin going to sue Trump for copyright infringement?

It would certainly be a pretty horrible twist for Trump as he tries to make money for his legal bills.
