Over the past couple of years, the Royal and Ancient – the governing body of professional golf – has made it very clear that they have no intention of hosting the British Open at the historic links at Turnberry as long as former United States President Donald Trump owns and operates the property. That’s not stopping Trump from trying to lure the major tournament back, but most people seem to think those attempts are useless.
This week, The Times of Scotland reported that Donald Trump is attempting a redesign of the Ailsa links at Turnberry in an attempt to convince the R&A that it should indeed be a site to host the British Open.
Unfortunately for Trump and Turnberry, the consensus reaction to this move seems to be that it’s simply useless. Most people criticized this decision from Trump, believing there simply isn’t a chance that R&A would change its mind at this point.
Could we see The Open return to Trump Turnberry? 🤔

I agree with your conclusion. It does not matter now that @TrumpTurnberry is already one of, if not the best course in the world. The R&A has made their decision clear. A renovation of two holes is not going to change anything.

Until there is better road and rail access and hotels available then, despite the quality of the course, this will remain an unfavourable Open venue.
Attendance figures are always the lowest = low revenue for the R&A

Changing their 1st name and removing Trump is the only way they’ll get back on the rota.
Can you imagine what a clown like him would do to make himself the centre of attention.

Tell Trump to save his money. It’s not going to happen whilst he’s there!

Pointless while tRump still owns it. The R&A have been pretty clear, but as usual he doesn’t want to admit it.

Turnberry has hosted the British Open four times in the past, but the historic course has not been a host site for the major tournament since 2009. Trump purchased the property in 2014, but after the Capitol riots on January 6th, 2021, the R&A announced that the Open Championship would not return to Turnberry in “the foreseeable future,” citing security concerns.
Trump seems convinced that he can still change their minds, but nobody seems to be buying it. We’ll have to see how this all plays out.
