In recent weeks and months, the Joe Biden administration revealed plans to release a change to Title IX that would forbid states from banning transgender students from competing against the gender they identify. More specifically, it would prevent states from banning transgender women from competing in women’s sports. And two ESPN personalities aren’t happy about it.

This week, ESPN stars Sage Steele and Samantha Ponder took to Twitter to express their frustration and disappointment with the proposed changes to Title IX.

“This is heartbreaking, maddening, and really difficult to watch,” Steele said in a tweet this week. “I keep thinking I’m going to wake up and be relieved that this was all just a ridiculous, comical, nonsensical dream….”

Samantha Ponder shared a similar message on her Twitter account.

“This would take away so many opportunities for biological women and girls in sports. It is a shame that we are needing to fight for the integrity of Title IX in 2023 and the reason it was needed in the first place,” Ponder said in a tweet.

This has certainly been a contentious and controversial issue with plenty of debate from both sides. And it’s safe to say that won’t be changing anytime soon.
