As Herschel Walker puts the finishing touches on his Georgia senate campaign in what appears to be a very close race with incumbent Raphael Warnock, it seems that many Georgia Republicans have lost hope in Walker winning the hotly-contested runoff election, even despite some powerful allies coming to Walker’s support.

According to a report from Politico, recent emails from the Herschel Walker campaign have begun describing his Tuesday evening gathering as an “Election night party,” rather than a “Victory Celebration” party – a change in messaging from the initial election in November. And according to a key Republican, the party’s hopes are fading.

“I think a lot of Republicans are hoping we’ll be pleasantly surprised, but there aren’t a lot of indications out there to base that on,” Jason Shepherd, former chair of the Georgia Cobb County GOP told Politico. “Just a lot of hope and faith in things unseen. It’s the Christmas season, after all.”

There is still a chance that Walker comes away with a victory on Tuesday, but there’s not much evidence of it. Walker trailed Warnock in the final poll ahead of Tuesday’s runoff election and is a massive underdog to win the election in the latest betting markets.
