The No. 16 Howard Bison were not able to pull off a shocking upset on Thursday afternoon, falling to the top-seeded Kansas Jayhawks in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. But despite the loss, United State Vice President Kamala Harris was proud of her alma mater.
Kamala Harris was in attendance for Thursday’s game. And after the hard-fought matchup, she took a trip to the team’s locker room to give a congratulatory message.
“You guys did so good, you guys did so good,” Harris said. “You played hard, you played to the very last second. Y0u made all us Bison so, so proud.”

“You hustled out there. You are smart. You are disciplined. You put everything you had into the game,” Harris said. “And you know that’s what it’s about, right? Until the last minute, you guys did that, you didn’t stop until the last second, you did not stop. And that is so inspiring. So you keep playing with chin up and shoulders back because you showed the world who Bison are.”
The words were kind enough, but as many pointed out, it was far from the most inspiring message and at times it felt like she was talking to children.
Why is she talking to them like they are 11?

Imagine you lose the biggest game of your life and ten minutes later this woman comes in and talks to you like you’re in a 1st grade gym class

Imagine losing after playing your heart out at the NCCA Tournament. Then you get to the locker room and you have to hear an awful speech by Kamala Harris. I feel so bad for the Howard players.

It was a kind enough gesture from the Vice President, but it’s safe to say people did not appreciate the execution.
