There has been a huge debate as of late regarding the fairness of transgender athletes in women’s sports. Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley made her stance on the topic very clear recently in a conversation with Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds.
The two discussed the topic earlier this month during a “Fair-Side Chat” held by Reynolds. And Haley made it clear that her goal is to help raise “strong girls”, and she believes that doing so does not include allowing athletes biologically born a male into women’s sports.
“I am of the firm belief that we have to raise strong girls,” said Haley in a video obtained and posted to the Forbes Breaking News YouTube Channel. “Strong girls become strong women. Strong women become strong leaders. It is hugely important. And you don’t do that by putting biological boys in girls’ sports.
“My daughter ran track in high school. I don’t even know how I would have that conversation with her. How do we get used to our girls having biological boys in their locker room? We should be focused on lifting up our girls in a way that they are true fighters, true Americans, true patriots.”
Haley is not the only GOP candidate to offer their opinion on the inclusion of biologically born males into women’s sports. Fellow Republican presidential candidate Tim Scott recently spoke about the matter, largely echoing Haley’s sentiments.
“If you’re able-bodied in America, you work. If you take out a loan, you pay it back. If you commit a violent crime, you go to jail. And if God made you a man, you play sports against men,” Scott said during his closing arguments in a recent debate.
