You might have forgotten that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was running for President of the United States. However, a commercial during Super Bowl LVIII between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers certainly reminded people about it.

The ad featured RFK Jr. repurposing an old commercial for his uncle, President John F. Kennedy when he initially ran for President in the 1960s.

The ad was run by American Values 2024, which was formerly known as People’s Pharma Movement and is a political action committee (PAC) that supports Kennedy Jr.’s presidential campaign.

When the ad appeared on screens, one of the most common reactions online was “What is RFK Jr. thinking?!?” Kennedy is running as an independent and has barely gotten any positive press in months, including from his famous family, who are endorsing Joe Biden for President.

Many people have accused RFK Jr. of exploiting not just his father’s legacy but his uncle’s as well.

While the Kennedys are considered the first family of the Democratic Party, they have openly opposed RFK Jr.’s run for public office. Unlike other family members, he has little political experience and appears to be backed by former Donald Trump advisor Steve Bannon. He has been endorsed by New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers for his anti-vaccine stance, so he’s got that going for him.

People are expressing their disappointment, anger, and disgust by the ad.

That’s not to say that Kennedy doesn’t have his supporters, but whatever reaction he was hoping to get from the Super Bowl commercial doesn’t appear to be happening.
