Donald Trump Donald Trump in a Ron DeSantis Ad

This week, the Ron DeSantis campaign shared a video blasting Donald Trump for his previous support of the LGBTQ and transgender community as well as Caitlyn Jenner.

The video, originally posted by the Twitter account “Proud Elephant,” was re-shared by the DeSantis War Room Twitter account – the Florida governor’s “Rapid Response” campaign account.

“To wrap up ‘Pride Month,’ let’s hear from the politician who did more than any other Republican to celebrate it…” the DeSantis Twitter account said.

The video highlights several times in the past when Donald Trump appeared to express support for the LGBTQ community. In one clip, Trump says in a speech that he will “do everything in my power to protect our LGBTQ citizens.”

In the video, Trump also says in the video that he would allow prominent transgender woman Caitlyn Jenner – a famous track and field star who went by the name Bruce Jenner before her transition – to use whichever bathroom she chooses if she were to walk into Trump Tower. He also says in the video that he would allow transgender women to compete in the Miss Universe beauty pageants, which he used to own.

The video then pivoted to showing various headlines regarding DeSantis’ anti-LGBTQ policies, apparently bragging about headlines that describe his moves as “draconian” and “totalitarianism.”

Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung responded to the video, telling CNN that it showed “a desperate campaign in its last throes of relevancy.”
