Politicians are known for not always keeping their promises, however, former Auburn Tigers coach Tommy Tuberville made a pretty big one to Alabama’s veterans when he campaigned for the Senate seat he now holds.

“I stand with our veterans, and I’m going to donate every dime I make when I’m in Washington, D.C., to the veterans of the state of Alabama. Folks, they deserve it. They deserve it a lot more than most of us,” the Republican candidate said at the time.

However, almost two years into his term, Tuberville, who sits on both the Veterans’ Affairs Committee and the Armed Services Committee, has yet to fulfill that promise.

According to an explosive report from The Washington Post, “There is no evidence that Tuberville has kept a key pledge he made when he ran for Senate three years ago—that he would ‘donate every dime’ he made in Washington to Alabama veterans.”

Tuberville, as the Post noted, earns $174,000 a year as a United States Senator. With an estimated net worth of over $20 million, The Post doesn’t figure that Tuberville meant he would also donate the “substantial amount” he earns on investments.

The political world was quick to react to the latest scandal involving Alabama’s junior senator.
