TNT was very excited about its modern-day Civil War drama Civil. Then Donald Trump became president-elect, and the network dropped the show.

According to a Deadline article from June, Civil was basically an intensified version of what is actually occurring right now in our country.

Civil takes place in the wake of a hotly contested Presidential election, as America finds itself plunging uncontrollably into a modern-day Civil War. The series weaves together the personal stories of citizens from all walks of life, whose actions — amplified in an age of instant media — add fuel to the conflict and affect the fate of the entire country.”

Although TNT has not released a specific reason for dropping the series, speculation is that the premise “may have felt too close to home,” according to Deadline.

We have not yet plunged uncontrollably into civil war, and hopefully it stays that way. But aside from that clause, the rest of the show’s description could easily be from a news article about the last month in real-life America.
